Social Work in the Library

The role of a library social worker involves a blend of staff consultations, direct patron work, and building community partnerships. Social workers aim to serve all residents in the community, especially those most at risk, through a lens of compassion and empathy.

Jack Trexler, M.S.W., is the library’s dedicated social worker and a proud member of the Carbondale Public Library team. He actively collaborates with interns and volunteers from SIUC’s social work program to strengthen community outreach and support initiatives.
