Neighborhood Alliance Meeting

Sat., February 3 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

Reducing Carbondale’s impact on climate change takes center stage at the annual Neighborhood Alliance Meeting, scheduled for Saturday, February 3, starting at 10 a.m. The event will be held at the Carbondale Public Library and will also be accessible via Zoom, facilitated by the library.

This two-hour gathering serves as a valuable source of information about our community. Attendees can learn about how neighborhoods are addressing current challenges, upcoming changes in the city, and upcoming events organized by community organizations. Reports will cover updates from the previous year’s meeting on topics such as gun violence, heat islands, and community development. Additionally, there will be a preview of the upcoming Comprehensive Plan writing process and an explanation of Code Red, Carbondale’s disaster preparedness communication.

Of particular focus this year is a proposal to reduce city-wide greenhouse gas emissions while supporting the local economy through the development of solar energy. City Planner Lauren Becker will present “The Energy Sovereignty, Security, & Democracy Proposal,” followed by a Q&A session. The meeting is open to all who call Carbondale home. For those preferring online access, registration is available at register.carbondalepubliclibrary.org/NAM.

The Neighborhood Alliance Meeting is organized by the Neighborhood Action Group, a public organization that convenes monthly to explore ways to enhance our neighborhoods and community. All meetings are open to the public, with the next one scheduled for Wednesday, February 7.
