Indie Lens Pop-Up Film Screening & Discussion: A Town Called Victoria
Wed., November 8, 2023 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
WSIU and the Carbondale Public Library invite you to a free film screening & community conversation centered on the Independent Lens film A Town Called Victoria.
ABOUT THE FILM: On January 28, 2017, leaders of the Victoria, Texas, Muslim community, Abe Ajrami, Omar Rachid, and Dr. Shahid Hashmi, watched as their mosque burned to the ground. A Reel South and INDEPENDENT LENS original series from award-winning filmmaker Li Lu, “A Town Called Victoria” follows the aftermath and investigations into the fire to answer the question of how a multi-faith community can come together to heal and turn against hate.
