“Breaking the News” – Indie Lens Pop-Up

WSIU, the Carbondale Public Library, and ITVS invite you to a free film screening, dinner, & community conversation on the Independent Lens film Breaking the News.
After the screening, News Literacy Project Director of Civic Engagement Alee Quick and WSIU Executive Director Fred Martino will lead a discussion on the film and how it relates to our Carbondale community.
ABOUT THE FILM: Who decides which stories get told? A scrappy group of women and LGBTQ+ journalists buck the status quo, launching the digital news startup The 19th* and aiming to combat misinformation. A story of an America in flux, and the voices that are often left out of the narrative, the documentary Breaking the News shows that change doesn’t come easy. Breaking the News premieres on WSIU Monday, February 19. Watch on the PBS App starting at 9pm.
