Banned Books Week Read-In

Mon., October 2, 2023 @ 12:30 pm 2:00 pm

Please join the ACLU of Illinois, Carbondale Public Library, and Southern Illinois University’s Morris Library during Banned Books Week on Monday, October 2 from 12:30 – 2:30 PM at the rotunda adjacent to Guyon Auditorium for a community read-in event!

At the read-in, we will discuss book banning and censorship challenges in Illinois and across the country, read from our favorite banned books, and share resources on how to speak at local public forums and take action. Come hear from ACLU-IL Senior Special Litigation Counsel Kevin Fee, Southern Illinois University’s Dean John Pollitz, Carbondale Public Library Director Jennifer Robertson, and ACLU-IL Director of Communications and Public Policy Ed Yohnka on the importance of engaging around issues of censorship. Immerse yourself in banned books while learning about the evolving censorship landscape and how each of us can play a role in the fight for our rights! Light refreshments will be provided.

This event is part of a series of ACLU of Illinois Banned Books Week read-in events around the state – we  hope you can join us!
