  • 8-bit Crafting: March 7, 4-5 PM
    Remember perler beads? They’re those plastic beads that you arrange in patterns, and then fuse together with a hot iron. They reproduce pixel art perfectly and they’re a great way to craft your favorite old 8-bit video game graphics. Make Mario’s fire flower, The Legend of Zelda’s boss key, Yoshi’s egg or any other character you’d like. All supplies provided.
  • Popcorn and a movie: March 14, 4-6 PM
    Happy Spring Break! Join us for movie style popcorn a showing of Dr Strange on the big screen. In this new Marvel movie, Neurosurgeon Stephen Strange studies the art of sorcery and must battle a rival who plans to cause chaos by accessing the Dark Dimension. Movie runs 115 minutes and is rated PG-13.
  • Open Video gaming: March 21, 4-5 PM
    Come and play Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Runbow, and more on our Wii and Wii U. Enjoy some friendly competition and snacks.
  • Table top Gaming – March 28, 4-5 PM
    We just bought a bunch of new board games and we want to try them out. Play an old favorite, or find a new one. Lots of friendly competition to be had! Games and snacks will be provided.

9th Annual Teen Poetry Contest

Teen Poetry Contest: March 2 – April 5 2017 

Teens aged 12-19, in grades 7-12, are invited to participate in the Library’s 9th annual Teen Poetry Contest. Entries will be accepted through April 5th, 2017. Winners will receive cash prizes and will recite their winning poems at the Poetry Contest Reception to be held on Tuesday, April 25th at 4:00 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room.

Teen Writers Workshop

The Carbondale Public Library will host a series of FREE teen writer’s workshops for students in grades 9-12. Students will work with Heather Weatherwax from the Saluki Writer’s Project to hone their creative writing skills. Participants will learn how to properly workshop/critique writing and provide constructive criticism for fellow writers. In addition, they will take part in fun but challenging writing exercises to bring their writing up to the next level.  All genres and levels of writers welcome.

WHO: Teens in grades 9-12.
WHERE: Carbondale Public Library, 405 W. Main Street, Carbondale IL 62901
WHEN: 4:00-5:30 PM on Mondays, from February 6 through April 17, 2017.
