Summer 2017 Themes & Activities:

Solar STEM – June 5,7,12,14:  Curious about the upcoming August 21st solar eclipse? With special guest Sara Marten from the University of Illinois Extension Office, we will explore the science of sun power and our solar system. Learn about UV rays, make a sun dial, and discover how we use the sun’s energy.

Eclipse Crafts – June 19,21:  Did you know that Carbondale is the BEST place in the world to view the eclipse?  In this session, we’ll construct a viewer that can be used to safely view the upcoming eclipse. We’ll also make custom glow-in-the-dark eclipse t-shirts.

Creative Journaling – June 26, 28 :  Keeping a creative journal is an awesome way to express yourself and record your thoughts and feelings. Using an old book, you’ll craft your very own personalized journal that can be used as a sketchbook, scrapbook, notebook, or any other way you choose. Special guest, Emilie St. Peter, a prevention educator from the Women’s Center will join us for this session.

Scratch Game Design –  July 10, 12, 17,19:  Using Scratch, a free web based computer coding program, you’ll design your very own multi-level platform style video game.

Harry Potter Party – July 24, 26:  Spend a week at Hogwarts!  The sorting hat will place you in a house, we’ll play quidditch, take a potions class, make a special craft, have a Harry Potter themed trivia contest, and more.

Video Game Madness – July 31, Aug 2:  Play Minecraft, Roblox or other games on the iPads, use Mario Maker to make your own Super Mario brothers level, join in the Smash Bros and Mario Kart tournaments on the WII-U, and play one of our many board games or card games.
