Book Clubs


Brown Bag & a Book Discussion Group: A group of book lovers that meet each Monday at the Carbondale Public Library at noon. Bring any book to share. Tell us what you liked or didn’t like. We keep discussions limited to one hour starting at noon. Everyone is welcome. You do not have to be a Carbondale Public Library cardholder to be a part of the group. Just bring a snack and a book. This is a fun way to meet new people and learn about books!

  • JANUARY 11, 2017 – Vance, J.D. Hillbilly Elegy. 264 pages.

  • FEBRUARY 8, 2017 – Any African-American autobiography or memoir. Suggested Reading: Angelou, Maya. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. 304 pages. Special Guest: Debbie Martin, Founder of Race Unity Group of Carbondale

  • MARCH 8, 2017 What the F: What Swearing Reveals About Our Language, Our Brains, and Ourselves by Benjamin Bergen. 226 pages.

  • APRIL 12, 2017 Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life by Karen Armstrong. 222 pages.

  • May 12, 2017 Any book pertaining to Islam. Suggested Reading: The everything understanding Islam book : a complete and easy-to-read guide to Muslim beliefs, practices, traditions, and culture by Christine Huda Dodge. 289 pages.
